Amaechi Makes History, Abolishes Concept of Non-Indigeneship In Rivers State

This is a beautiful development as I was born in Rivers State and lived over 26 years of my life there, but I couldn't get much because I was seen as a "non-indigene". So, I say kudos to Amaechi!

Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has made history by becoming the first Governor in the annals of governance in Nigeria to abolish the concept of non-indigeneship in any State of the Federation. He announced this over the weekend while welcoming a large crowd of non-indigenes in the State who paid him a solidarity visit at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

Amaechi told his guests, all members of the Non Indiegne Political For​u​m (NIPF), a support group of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State:
"I don't believe in non-indigeneship. As far as I am concerned, you are entitled to everything if you have lived in Rivers State for at least five years. We are all Rivers indigenes. If you go anywhere around this State and they are segregating against you, please, call my attention. The reason is that we are all Nigerians and we remain bonafide citizens of this country. The All Progressives Congress (APC) believes that there is need for change because the government in power does not want money to reach you. We need the bottom-top approach for our people to benefit and improve their standard of living." 

The Governor also announced the approval of a bus for the NIPF and 20% scholarship for non-indigenes in the State amongst other largesse.

His announcement threw the thousands of visitors into frenzy. It was a challenging day for the security personnel at the Government House as they never envisaged such a crowd which was unprecedented in the history of solidarity visits to the Government House.

A chieftain of the Forum, High Chief Williams Samuel Ubaka, presented the delegation's address on behalf of the Coordinator of the Forum, Chief Uchenna Okokoba. He told Governor Amaechi: "We are particularly happy with the uncommon transformation of your administration, and especially, in the areas of good and accessible roads, healthcare services, education, particularly, the world-class model primary and secondary schools that have admitted our children on scholarship; we are most grateful." 

High Chief Ubaka also thanked Governor Amaechi for employing 20 per cent of non-indigenes during the last teachers' recruitment exercise, and the appointment of their sons into political offices to pilot the affairs of the state. Like Oliver Twist, the visitors made further demands, among them the provision of vehicles for the NIPF, pilgrimage slots for non-indigenes, implementation of employment and scholarship quota, empowerment and skill acquisitions, as well as reduction of burial fees at the Port Harcourt Cemetery and happily the Governor approved all the requests presented by the NIPF.

In his speech, Rives State APC Chairman, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, said that with the large crowd of non-indigenes supporting both the Governor and APC, the death of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State is now very obvious. Dr Ikanya applauded the Governor for carrying non-indigenes along in his administration of the State, saying that by so doing he has demonstrated to the entire nation that he is a true nationalist and a patriotic Nigerian whose love for all Nigerians is no longer in doubt. Dr. Ikanya boasted that no other government in Nigeria has done for the non-indigenes in any part of Nigeria what Gov. Amaechi has done for those residing in Rivers State. He noted that the Amaechi administration has sponsored a minimum of 500 Muslims to Mecca annually and that he will sponsor 100 Muslims and 100 Christians from APC by this year. He also hailed Amaechi for approving 10 per cent positions for non indgenes in the Ward, Local Government and State Executive Councils of the APC, which he described as unprecedented in the country.

An elated NIPF Leader, Barr. Chuma Chinye, who was moved by the love of the Governor assured him that his commitment towards the welfare of non-indigenes shall never be in vain as NIPF is ready to mobilise all the good people of Rivers State to vote for APC come 2015. Chinye, who is the State Commissioner of Commerce and Industry, thanked the Governor for assuring them that they are now citizens of Nigeria from Rivers State.

President Jonathan Sacks His Political Adviser, Ahmed Gulak

Fear is in the air and no one knows who is next among the big mouth men who have been attacking respected and prominent Nigerians, all in a bid to remain in the good book of President Goodluck Jonathan and continue to be part of the cabal that benefits from the national cake with impunity, as is the case.

Anyway, the first casualty is Ahmed Gulak, Special Adviser on Political Matters to the president. The man had it rough with Akwa Ibom State governor, Godswill Akpabio, recently and he has also been all out against the Governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyak, calling him all sorts of names.

It appears Ahmed Gulak is one of those who have been going about making enemies for Jonathan, hence he has terminated his appointment with immediate effect.

According to a statement from the Presidency on Tuesday, Jonathan thanked Alhaji Gulak for his services to the present administration and wished him success in his future endeavours.

A replacement for Gulak's position will be announced shortly as the political terrain is set to get tough.

"I‘ve Revealed Boko Haram Sponsors To President Jonathan" - Says Guru Maharaj Ji

As Nigeria battles the Islamic sect, Boko Haram, the Spiritual Leader of One Love Family, Sat Guru Maharaj Ji, has said that he had revealed the sponsors of the sect to President Goodluck Jonathan.

Former Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Commassie, on Thursday [Apr. 24], challenged the President to name the sponsors of Boko Haram based on the security report with Federal Government. Guru who recently declared that both sponsors of the group and those behind the April 14 bombing at Nyanya Park in Abuja that claimed scores of lives would face repercussions of their action before the end of October 2014.

Sat Guru revealed this during an interview with Daily Independent:"I had told President Goodluck Jonathan those behind these nest of killers (Boko Haram) through several publications."

He named some former military rulers, a former Vice President, and some leaders in the North as financiers of the group. He said: I have asked the President to arrest them before now because they said after the 2011 general elections that because power did not return to the North, they would make the nation ungovernable".

The spirit of the creator is against them. They are going to be dealt with. I will call them to order in the interest of innocent Nigerians, enough of the bloodletting. If President Jonathan had listened to the advice I gave him two years ago when I was at Aso Rock, all the killings by Boko Haram would have stopped. After my visit to the villa, the bombings stopped but because those in government did not continue to tap from my spiritual grace, the bombers returned.

"Nigeria belongs to all of us. As Living Perfect Master, I cannot be here and all these continue. I am challenging the Northern leaders to an open debate on a national television. Let them swear by the name of the Creator and all the seven elements of the earth that their actions were not the direct reflection of Boko Haram onslaught."

Jonathan moves to resolve HND/BSc dichotomy

Polytechnic graduates are discriminated against in private and public employment.

The supervising Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike, has declared that the issue of dichotomy between HND and Degree holders will soon be resolved as President Goodluck Jonathan has set up a committee headed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Pius Anyim, to address the challenge.

Addressing chairmen of Governing Councils of Federal Polytechnics and Federal Colleges of Education on Thursday in Kaduna during a Special retreat, Mr. Wike said that the SGF and members of the committee met with Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, last week to resolve the dichotomy.

HND holders are discriminated against not just by private employers but also by various level of the Nigerian government. When employed into government ministries, fresh HND holders are recruited to Level 7 while fresh BSc holders are recruited to Level 8.

The removal of the dichotomy between the two categories of graduates is among the demands of the striking polytechnic lecturers, ASUP.

Mr. Wike also claimed that other demands have also been resolved. He said the issue of the release of white-paper for visitation panels to Federal Polytechnics and Federal Colleges of Education is being concluded at the Office of the SGF.

The Minister called on the chairmen of the Governing Councils of Federal Polytechnics and Federal Colleges of Education to assist the federal government by deploying their relevant skills towards resolving the lingering strike action of the lecturers.

Mr. Wike urged the striking unions to reciprocate the gesture of President Jonathan by calling off their strike and resuming academic work in the interest of the nation.

"Permit me to call on our lecturers to call-off their protracted strike to enable academic activities commence in the Polytechnics and Colleges of Education. Let us show understanding with government and the challenges before it and call-off the strike. We acknowledge the importance of teacher education and polytechnic education and as responsible government we will not down-play their roles in national development and prosperity," Mr. Wike said.

In his remark, Chairman of Committee of Chairmen of Governing Councils of Federal Polytechnics, Ebenezer Babatope, appealed to the striking lecturers to work towards resuming academic activities in line with the commitments made by President Jonathan to further develop Polytechnics and Colleges of Education.

Polytechnic lecturers, ASUP, have been on strike since October 2013 while colleges of education lecturers, COEASU, have been on strike since December 2013.

The chairman of the National Board for Technical Education, Laz Ekwueme, called for the reconciliation of all parties for academic activities to resume in Polytechnics and Colleges of Education.

Present at the meeting were chairmen of governing councils of Federal Polytechnics and Colleges of Education.

Also in attendance were Rectors, Provosts and officials of National Board of Technical Education, National Commission for Colleges of Education and Federal Ministry of Education.

See Pope Francis Prayer for Nigeria

Nigeria came yesterday under focus as Pope Francis prayed for an end to the Boko Haram insurgency in his Easter message to faithful and to the World.

The head of World's Catholics, mentioned close to a dozen countries in the Papal homily to mark the resurrection of Jesus.

"We beg for … a halt to the brutal terrorist attacks in parts of Nigeria," he prayed.

A suicide bombing at Nyanya motor park in Abuja claimed 75 lives last week.

Besides, 129 pupil girls of Girls Secondary School, Chibok in Borno State were abducted by suspected Boko Haram insurgents.

The Pope also prayed for the end of acts of violence in South Sudan and the conflicts in the Central African Republic.

"Enable us to care for our brothers and sisters struck by the Ebola epidemic in Guinea Conakry, Sierra Leone and Liberia, and to care for those suffering from so many other diseases which are also spread through neglect and dire poverty," he said.

Celebrating Easter Sunday, Christianity's most joyous and hopeful day, Pope Francis prayed for peace in Ukraine and Syria.

More than 150,000 tourists – Romans and pilgrims, young and old – turned out for the Mass he celebrated at an altar set up under a canopy on the steps of St. Peter's Basilica.

So many came that they overflowed the huge square, which was bedecked with row after row of potted daffodils, sprays of blue hyacinths and bunches of white roses. Waving flags from the pope's native Argentina as well as Brazil, Mexico, Britain, Poland and many other countries, they filled the broad boulevard leading from the square to the Tiber River.

Francis makes a pilgrimage to Jordan, the Palestinian territories and Israel next month. On Easter, he prayed that hopes sparked by the resumption of Mideast peace negotiations be sustained.

But Francis' Easter message also stressed that people pay attention to the needy close to home.

Reflecting the priorities of his papacy, he said the "good news" of Easter's joy and hope means "leaving ourselves behind and encountering others, being close to those crushed by life's troubles, sharing with the needy, standing at the side of the sick, elderly and the outcast".

Cheering and applauding, the crowd tried to catch a glimpse of the pontiff as he circled around in his white popemobile at the end of the ceremony before he went to the central balcony over the basilica to deliver his commentary on the violence and poverty staining the Earth.

SAD: Here’s What Really Happened the Day Psquare Peter and Paul Fought

According to an insider:

The supposed fight between Paul and Peter Okoye was actually started by their PAs. Jude's PA, Wande, had given money to Peter's PA to get his car registered. But Peter's PA, Shege, instead of spending the money on what he was asked to use it for, allegedly spent it on something else. This is a guy that reportedly, when PSquare's mum was still alive had also 'eaten' the money given to him to purchase a car for Psquare's mum.

So, Jude's PA was reportedly really angry when he found out his money was gone and the car wasn't registered. So, he stormed Squareville to confront Peter's PA. Along the line, they got into a heated argument and a fight broke out between the two of them. Like real, serious, bloody fight. Things were so heated up that Peter allegedly came in, joined the fight and was about to hit Jude's PA with a pen when Paul reportedly jumped in, held his twin brother's hand to stop him.

In that rage, Peter allegedly swung his free hand and landed Paul a big blow that made him fall to the ground. I was told Paul didn't fight Peter back. Rather, their elder brother Tony allegedly pounced on Peter and started beating him. Anita, Paul Okoye's wife, witnessed this incident.

I was told Peter wants to be incharge of their funds or get more money allegedly due to pressure from his wife.

Jude has always been in charge and Paul wants it to stay that way. Then that the lawyer brought in to split their property came, no one agreed that this is yours, this one is mine, so the lawyer says he can't continue. At least for now.

That Lola never visits Squareville cos she allegedly sees the family members as enemies, unlike Anita who freely visits regularly. Plenty other personal details. Some of you already have heard about Psquare's mum telling her sons that she sees them splitting if Peter weds Lola cos she reportedly saw in a dream where Peter was pursuing Paul with a fork to kill him. So much stuff, but let's leave it here for now.

The drama coming out of the PSquare household is getting really serious. Yesterday, Jude shared a tweet that sparked fears that all is not well with Africa's beloved singing duo.

Today, a source very close to the artiste has revealed that not only are the twins fighting, Peter Okoye wants out of P-Square and they have even gone as far as inviting a lawyer to divide their fortune. As of right now, Peter Okoye doesn't want anything to do with P-Square. He has moved out of Squareville mansion in Omole where he lived with his brothers for years and now lives in Lekki Phase 1 with his wife Lola Omotayo and their children.

Here's what the source, an industry person who knows what's been going on, told Linda Ikeji:

"Yes they fought this week. Peter even left a mark on Paul's left eye. But the fight wasn't during rehearsal, which rehearsal? Peter has refused to do anything P-Square for weeks now. Forget that he was at his brother's wedding, things are not good between them right now. They were even invited to perform at president Jonathan's wedding but they didn't go.

Peter wants out. He said Paul and Jude are sidelining him. That if they push out 200 songs, 199 would be songs Paul did. That people are now calling him a dancer in P-Square. Peter is really angry. He's even the cool and friendly one between the brothers but he is not himself right now. And then he accused his brother Jude of disrespecting his wife. Peter and Jude haven't spoken in weeks. Peter said Jude has been disrespecting Lola for years and he was done tolerating the BS. In fact Peter said that not only is Lola older than Jude, but that she's also pregnant and Jude was upsetting a pregnant woman. If you notice Jude didn't attend their wedding last year despite the fact that he was in Nigeria. Jude asked Peter why he didn't marry Lola when their mother was alive. Jude said it's his wife that is pushing him and they will need to pray for him. In fact nobody in the Okoye family likes Lola and they didn't support the marriage. The brothers are really angry at each other. The police is even involved. This week, either the commissioner of police or someone from his office visited their house.

The worst part is that they have invited lawyer to come and share property o. They want to share everything. The lawyer was at their house I think on Thursday. Peter said no more P-Square joint ventures. You know they own everything together, including a house in Omole, Parkview and Atlanta. Except something is done fast P-Square is about to be finished. But I know that people have been intervening and begging them to reconsider, that they are the biggest musical duo in Africa. Nobody will benefit if they split. The power to make money is in their togetherness.

It is Jude people are begging to keep the brothers together, but after what he tweeted yesterday, it may truly be over for P-Square. Jude has really tried for his brothers, for him to give up may mean it's over for them. He practically put his entire life on hold for his brothers. Even sold his first car to shoot their first video but all that is about go come to an end like he tweeted. The only thing that can save the situation is if by a miracle Jude and Lola settle their differences but I don't see that happening.

There have been civilians like Gandhi and soldiers like Rawlings who have walked their nations out of the mess, but of its 168 million victims of the treacherous, lootocratic fourth republic, Nigeria does not have a single civilian or soldier, talk less thousands willing and able to deliver its children, elders and most helpless.

This is why president Obama does not only not visit, but does not even talk of or remember Nigeria, a nation in a new dark age.

Boko Haram Leader Shekau Opens Up: "We Are Now In Abuja"

This madness is getting out of hand. Please, if possible government should dialogue through the back door:

As you read this, the dreaded leader of the Boko Haram sect, Abubakar Shekau has released another video in a very daring move. In the message, he claimed responsibility for the latest bombing of Nyanya in Abuja that claimed the lives of about 100 persons. Unfortunately, he has threatened more attacks again.

Sending fear across the land, Shekau boasted in the video that he is now in Abuja live:

"We are the ones who carried out the bombing in Abuja in an area called Nyanya. Jonathan you are a lame duck.

Jonathan, you are too small for us. 
"You (Jonathan) should know that we are worshipping God, that is why we are always victorious in all our attacks. If you are that wise and knowledgeable, why is it still very difficult for you to locate where we are up till date despite the fact that we are within Nigeria.

Look at us, we are right within your city (Abuja), and you don't even know how to find us. Let me tell you now; I am here, very close to you; I dare you to get me, if you can."

Shekau said the Nyanya bombing and many others carried out by Boko Haram were a retaliation act for all the killings Muslims suffer across the world and in the Northern part of Nigeria.

In the video, Shekau appeared dressed in military camouflage, black turban, with an AK-47 rifle slung across his chest. He was holding a thick "chewing stick" in his right hand and spiral-bound notepaper in his left. He started his speech by pointing the chewing stick and calling the name of President Jonathan three times, before saying, "You are just too small."

The video ended with footage of the destruction at the scene of the recent Abuja bomb blast. #BigTrouble

PSquare deny breaking up with brother, Jude

Jude Okoye, PSquare's elder brother, recently kicked off his own record label.
Pop duo, PSquare, have denied that their elder brother, Jude 'Engees' Okoye, has dumped the Square Records family.

Speaking with PREMIUM TIMES, the Public Relations Executive to Psquare, Bayo Adetu, described the report as irresponsible blogging.

"I am too busy to give some wanna be blogger traffic, I don't know where that report is coming from. Maybe they just want to get traffic to their site. It's baseless and untrue".

Jude Okoye, in a tweet, had suggested he might have called it quit with Square records having kicked off his own record label, North side entertainment.

"@judeengees After over 10yrs of hard work, it's over. Am done," he tweeted earlier on Friday.

Despite the tweet, Jude's Twitter bio remains- "President/C.E.O Square Records, Northside Music Inc and Northside Entertainment Ltd. PSquare's Manager/Producer Director …….what else…mypsquare.com".

Earlier in the week, Wizkid and Waje parted ways with their manager, Godwin Tom.

Over 200 Female Students Kidnapped By Boko Haram

SaharaReporters has just learned that suspected members of the Islamist militant group, Boko Haram, have abducted 103 students in a daring raid at the Girls Secondary School in Chibok, a town on the border between Borno and Adamawa States.

The group's assault on the all-female high school took place on Monday night. A security source disclosed that members of the extremist Islamist group killed a soldier guarding the school and inflicted injuries on several villagers before abducting the students.

The police commissioner in Borno State, Lawan Tanko, confirmed the kidnapping of the students to reporters in the state.

A source who lives near the school told a correspondent of SaharaReporters that there was complete chaos during the attack, adding that the students could put up no resistance to the heavily armed attackers.

The mass abduction lasted between 9PM -3 AM as sect members made several trips picking and choosing their victims out of the 250 students enrolled in the school.

Residents of the area also told Saharareporters that  the militants  razed 100 homes because some of the residents initially resisted the militants.

UTME ‘answers’ go viral on internet before exams - JAMB

The height of corruption in the Nigerian education system was displayed on Saturday, as answers to the 2014 Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, went viral on the internet.

The answers, according to reports gathered by the Sunday Tribune, were uploaded on a social website at the early hours of Saturday, the day the examination was written.

Speaking with one of the candidates, Ayomide Koyejo, he also confirmed the answers displayed on the internet, but said the answers did not correlate with the questions.

"Actually, I did not come across the answers until after I had written the exam but when I cross checked, they were not correct, maybe it was correct for other questions but not mine.

Candidates over the years, in desperation to secure admission out of the hundreds of thousands of candidates who sit for the examination yearly, have been known to pay huge amounts of money for answers, sometimes falling into the hands of fraudsters, who collect money, give their victims fake answers and disappear.

Meanwhile, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has said that the conduct of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) on Saturday was cancelled in Borno State over threat of Boko Haram attacks on the examination centre.

JAMB Registrar, Professor 'Dibu Ojerinde, who made this known in Abuja while monitoring the exercise, said the over 400 candidates who were supposed to sit for the 2014 UTME in the state were stopped from participation.

Ojerinde, however, assured that the candidates would be accommodated during the Computer Based Test scheduled for May 17th, 2014.

There were reports on Friday that some sect members unleashed another attacks in four communities in Borno,  Dikwa, Kala Balge, Gambulga and Gwoza, leaving in the wake scores of people dead,including JAMB candidates.

The sect were alleged to have attacked a Teachers College in Dikwa and killed seven people, burnt down the school library and administrative block.

Kala Balge was reported to be the most devastated as 60 people were killed by the armed men who went on the rampage.

It was also reported that when they left Kala Balge they attacked three other towns in the area where a total of 150 persons were allegedly killed.

But Ojerinde, debunked claims that those killed were UTME candidates. Permanent Federal Ministry of Education, Dr. McJohn Nwaobiala, who corroborated Ojerinde's position denied attacks on UTME candidates in Borno as speculated in some quarters.   

JAMB had said the 400 candidates would be made to sit for the examination at a date to be announced later by the board, adding that they would be examined through the computer based test.

A 26-year-old bus conductor, Nurudeen Suleiman, who allegedly jumped into the Atlantic Ocean after stealing N40, 000, was on Tuesday charged before a Tinubu Magistrates' Court, Lagos.


The accused, whose address is unknown, is facing a charge of stealing before Magistrate Salama Matepo.

The prosecutor, SP Austin Orji, said the accused committed the offence on March 30 at about 4.30 p.m. at the Bar Beach on Victoria Island, Lagos.

He alleged that the accused had approached the complainant, one Mr Segun for some financial assistance.

"The man had brought out some naira notes to give Suleiman and in the process, some fell off.

"The accused on the pretext of helping to pick the money kept N40, 000 and handed over the rest to the complainant.

"The complainant suspected a foul play and before he knew it, Suleiman had jumped into the Atlantic Ocean to avoid being caught.

"He stayed in the ocean for about 30 minutes to allow the divers that had attempted to arrest him leave,'' Orji said.

He said the accused was later apprehended by some security men when he came out.

The offence, Orji noted, contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Suleiman, however, pleaded not guilty.

In his ruling, the magistrate granted the accused bail in the sum of N20, 000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case to April 23.

Davido’s Fans Refuse His Apology and Blast Him As His $40/$75 New York Show Flops!

The artiste, who is currently in New York as part of a US tour, has been accused by his many fans of cheating them right there in the Big Apple.

The pop artiste's first official US tour seems to have started on a bad note. Davido held a live concert in New York last night but hours later, a huge number of his fans took to social media to berate the Pop singer for his 'bad behaviour'.

According to concert goers, the headline artiste (Davido) was billed to hit the stage at about midnight but did not do so until 3AM. Fans had gotten irritated at this point, knowing that the show was to end in an hour. Davido is also said to not have performed his hit song 'Skelewu'.

Fans who paid for regular tickets were charged $40 while VIP tickets sold for $75. The show (and US concert) was put together by Big A Entertainment.

Knowing fully well what had happened, Davido tried to correct the 'mishap' by tendering an apology on Twitter but it seemed too late as fans responded, blasting him.

"Damn My NY was too packed police shut it down!! The love and support that came out was overwhelming!!! I will be back!' @iam_Davido: 'Feel so bad!!!!!!! Not my fault but I take the blame!!! I'm sorry!! Luv u guys 4real!! NYC!!!!!!Really sad!," Davido wrote.
