Why Is The Presidency Threatening Governor Amaechi's Life?

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Rivers State Chapter, has strongly condemned the reported threat to the life of the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, by Federal Government agents. The party in a statement by the state Chairman, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, described the development as evil, horrendous, unjustifiable and provocative.

"We have noted the alarm raised by the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Public Service Matters, Hon. Andrew Uchendu that the life of the Governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has come under threat from the Federal Government and its agents. We condemn this reprehensible plot on the life of an innocent man whose only offence is that he is fighting for the rights of the people who elected him their Governor. Rt. Hon. Amaechi has not committed any crime deserving of death and we wish to warn that no such harm must come to him."

We have noted with dismay and astonishment that Governor Amaechi apart from being ambushed and refused entry last week into Ekiti by military personnel acting on orders from above was made to turn back and return to Akure where his chattered aircraft was parked but was chased and rounded by armed soldiers and security personnel in Odudu, Ondo state.

Boko Haram is holding parts of Nigeria to ransom and President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday admitted that the activities of the violent Islamic sect have curtailed his movement and prevented him from going to wherever he loves. The blast at Emab Plaza in Abuja, occurred on Wednesday shortly after the President left Nigeria for the 23rd Ordinary Session of the African Union’s Summit of Heads of State and Government.

According to his itinerary released by Dr. Reuben Abati, the President was scheduled to return to the country on Friday after the summit but Jonathan returned to Nigeria on Thursday evening from because of the bomb blast at Emab Plaza in Abuja.

President Jonathan, who visited EMAB Plaza on Friday, urged Nigerians to bear the pains and restrictions that could be imposed on them as security agencies work hard to end insurgency in the country.

A six-year-old boy, Emmanuel Emeka, who was rescued from a suspected kidnapper on Wednesday in the Ikorodu area of Lagos, has recounted how he was lured, seized and tied up by his abductor.

Emmanuel said the suspect, identified as Mama Ifunaya, who was a neighbour, lured him into her room, strangled him, covered his mouth with clothes before tying him up with rope to prevent him from screaming.

"I wanted to draw water and take my bath before going to school when she told me to come. I went because I know her; she is Mama Ifunnaya. But when I got to her side, she threw me inside her room… she closed her net. She then tied me and put me inside a box.
