Kevin, Charlyn & Kimberly Associates, a UK-based
research and political risk consultancy firm, has predicted the outcome
of the March 28 presidential election.
The firm stated that althuogh the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will be facing a tough challenge on March 28, victory for the ruling party looks more likely.
According to a new survey carried out by the research company, the incumbent President, Goodluck Jonathan of the PDP will win the 2015 presidential election with a margin of 13% (probability).
The group which used both ‘monkey survey’ and ‘Political Risk Index’ to forecast the Nigerian election, projected a Jonathan’s win if everything remains constant.
This was revealed in a statement by O.C Vince, the vice president of
the firm for West Africa, while addressing a press conference today in
Abuja.
According to Vince, the firm has no partisan interest in the outcome of the election which is left for the people of Nigeria to decide.
The company said it decided to conduct the survey because of the general global interest the Nigeria election has generated. ‘Many people around the world, including political leaders and investors are focusing on Nigeria to see how the process of democracy is managed’.
Vince said the ruling Peoples Democratic Party appeared to be facing its toughest challenge in 16 years and hoped the efforts they have made will help deepen and strengthen democracy in Nigeria and enable the different contending parties to manage their final push toward 2015.
The Jonathan-proposed victory will come as a relief to the president after two previous mock polls predicted a win for General Buhari of the APC.
In a two-page analysis survey, tagged: “Straw Prediction of 2015 Presidential Election”, released by the National Think Tank Group, Buhari/APC had estimated votes of 15.4 million and President Goodluck Jonathan of the PDP, 11 million, which indicates that Gen. Buhari will win.
Before then, a group known as the Eurasia group also predicted a victory for the former Major General.
In his reaction to Buhari’s mock victory, Jonathan said;“You may wish General Buhari win as you deem, but God’s shall be carried out on that day.”
“Those people you keep quoting are not in Nigeria, and do not have any link to the grassroots in Nigeria, and do not even know what is happening here.”
However, President Jonathan’s confidence looks to have been boosted by Kevin, Charlyn & Kimberly Associates’ research.
