President Goodluck Jonathan in Bayelsa |
Reporters in Bayelsa state capital, Yenagoa have revealed
that the city and state are quite calm following the declaration of
yesterday’s results by the Independent National Electoral Commission,
INEC, declaring Gen Muhammadu Buhari victorious.
Yesterday, the city was shut down with most commercial banks closed as citizens awaited the final results.
The move was due to safety measure against likely attack in case of outbreak of violence over the outcome of the election.
A source in one of the banks said: “It was a precautionary
measure taken due to the tension in the air over the outcome of the
presidential poll. We have since closed for theday but we will open for business in the morning.”
Youth Corper had revealed their displeasure over the developement, especially with the text message allegedly from the authorities of the NYSC being circulated, urging them to vacate their lodge or relocate to military barracks close to them as well as not to put on their uniforms in public for fear of attack after the announcement of the presidential results.
Bayelsans were surprised that President Goodluck Jonathan would be leaving Aso Rock on May 29th, They thought he had done enough to be given a second term.
Yenagoa was glued to their Tv sets at home and in public places where a TV was set.
Police spokesman in the state, Asinim Butswat said: “We do not encourage anybody to leave.”
Butswat assured the People that the police will stop any troublemaker in time if issues were to arise.
