A 30-year-old Indian woman was gang-raped by at least six persons, including her estranged husband, and also forced to drink urine at a village in Madhya Pradesh's Khandwa district in central India.
India Today reports that the woman who was living separately from her husband, Kailash Bhil (35), for the last couple of months due to some property dispute was raped in the presence of her 10-year-old son on June 10.
Recounting what happened, the victim said her husband had called her to a place in the village on the pretext of thrashing out the differences between them and she went along with her son to see the husband.
She said she was thrashed and gang-raped by her husband and the other men who were with him, adding that they paraded her naked and when she asked for water, the men urinated on her face and forced her to drink it.
Confirming the incident, the Manoj Sharma, District Superintendent of Police said the woman's family had reported the matter to the police after taking her to the Khandwa District Hospital.
He said acting on the complaint, the police have arrested all that were involved in the gang rape, including the victim's husband, relatives and other villagers.
He said investigations are ongoing.
India has witnessed a spurt in rape cases over the years. Following the December 2012, gang- rape of a student in New Delhi, there was public outcry both locally and internationally for better treatment for the country's women. Despite this call, rape cases has continued to be on the increase in the country.
