In a report published by Premium Times, it has been gathered that dozens may have died in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, as a bomb blast rocked popular Bayan Tasha market/ motor park in Damaturu on Saturday, May 15, witnesses said.
An eye witness said the blast which occurred at about 11.00am, left many mutilated human parts littering the scene.
Another eye witness and a resident of Damaturu, Abdulmalik Audu, said the incident occurred behind the main Damaturu motor park, where there are commercial shops and shops.
Reuters international media placed the number of casualties at seven, but reported that, at least 27 people are critically injured.
However, Vanguard reported that the bomb attack was said have been yet another onslaught of Islamic terrorist group, Boko Haram on Damaturu.
According to the media outfit, the attack is said to have been executed by one suicide bomber, suspected to be ten years old. The newspaper media put the number of casualties at seven with about 26 others injured.
This figure was disclosed by the Medical Director, Sani Abacha General Hospital, Damaturu, Dr Garba Fika while he was briefing the governor of the state, Gov. Ibrahim Gaidam about the condition of the victims.
He said: “We received a total of 33 victims of bomb blast that occurred an hour ago; all of them sustained various degree of injuries, out of which seven are dead, while seven are under a very critical condition.
“We might refer those under critical condition to the Federal Medical Centre, Nguru and Federal Medical Centre Azare in Bauchi State respectively.
“Already, the Yobe State government had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with these health institutions, in case of emergency of this nature.”
He added that the victims who had mild injuries, were responding to treatment and would be discharged soon
On February 15, 2015, no fewer than 16 people were killed in an explosion that rocked a busy motor park Bayan Tasha located near a market in the same Damaturu.
The use of female suicide bombers has become a trend for the Boko
Haram sect. Two months ago, a fatal bomb blast had hit an overcrowded
market in the largest Southern Borno town, Biu, killing many. A female
suicide bomber was said to been responsible for the attack.
