Six operatives of the Department of State Security, DSS, were hospitalised yesterday after sustaining injuries when the convoy of President Goodluck Jonathan was attacked by angry youths at a campaign rally in Bauchi.
The president met a hostile crowd armed with brooms and stones as the convoy drove to the venue of the rally from the palace of the Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwan Suleiman Adamu.
However, the youths became more hostile as the President’s convoy entered the Ibrahim Babangida Square for the rally, throwing stones at the convoy.
The quick intervention of security men at the venue forced the youths to retreat.
The youths were able to make their way back as the President’s convoy was leaving the rally venue.
Following the development, the last bus in the convoy, which conveyed some operatives of the DSS from the venue, was attacked while the windscreen was shattered.
In the process, six of the occupants of the bus were injured and rushed to the hospital
While four of the security operatives were treated and discharged immediately, another two, including a lady who sustained deep cuts on her head, which required bandage and medical attention, are still receiving treatment.
