Some motorists plying Ayobo/Ipaja Road in Alimosho area of Lagos State on Friday, March 6, 2015 appealed to Gov. Babatunde Fashola to ensure the completion of the road before leaving office.

They made the appeal in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

The motorists complained that the delay in completing the road had brought untold hardship to them as they had to endure long hours of gridlock daily owing to the bad state of some of its portions.

“We are appealing to Fashola to ensure the completion of the road as soon as possible. So many portions of the roads are yet to be fixed and it is creating serious traffic gridlock.

“We hope the governor will finish this road once and for all and give motorists and other road users a new lease of life,’’ Mr Mukaila Akanbi, a commercial bus driver said.
Another motorist, Mr Tunde Adekanbi, said the constant traffic at the Gate section of the road was a nightmare and wondered why the government had not completed the project after work commenced five years ago.

He said the constant gridlock on the road made many people living in Ayobo, Ipaja, Aiyetoro to get to their offices and business places late, urging the state government to act fast on the matter.

Adekanbi said the road was very strategic as it linked some Lagos communities to Ogun and had a high volume of traffic.

“Ayobo/Ipaja Road is about the only road through which residents can go to Iyana Ipaja, Oshodi and other parts of the mainland.

“It is also strategic because it links Lagos communities like Ayobo, Ipaja, Megida, Ishefun, Camp David to Ogun communities like Ayetoro, Itele, Idi-Orogbo and others.

“I hope the government will give it the attention it deserves and put an end to sufferings on the road,’’ he said.

Mrs Aderanti Kokumo, a resident of Ayobo, said many people had relocated due to the difficulty in accessing the area and the problems on the road.
