INEC boss, Jega.
Following the unending controversies surrounding the seat of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Prof Attahiru Jega, some Nigerians have expressed mixed reactions to the alleged plot to remove him from office.

Although it is no longer news that there were strong speculation that President Goodluck Jonathan planned on removing the INEC boss from office ahead of the country’s general elections slated for March 28 and April 11, 2015.

Some Nigerians who spoke with Naij.com expressed different views on the issues as some strongly condemned the plan while others spoke in favour of the alleged plan.

Celestine Sylvester, who spoke on the aforementioned issue, threw his full support on the call to remove the INEC chief.

“Jega’s vacation is a natural sequence. Jega is not above the law. He wants to violate the law by refusing to embark on a terminal leave which is in the electoral act. His plan to favour an opposition party in the forthcoming election has failed. His time is up,” Sylvester said.

Lyon Lyon reacting also to the lingering issue said: “Why is it that Jega case is sounding different on the ears of the opposition (APC) to that of his predecessors. There were other umpires before he came onboard so he will go, Nigerians should ask questions on the vested interest of APC on JEGA’s exit. I am suspecting a game plan in this unholy matrimony between the two couples in question.”

Zarchong Seabird expressed optimism that President Goodluck Jonathan will force Jega to commence his terminal leave, noting that if the terminal leave is lawful, Jega does not need to be forced except if he threatens to break the law then the chief security officer of the nation will enforce the law.

According to Akinwale Ogunkua “Removing” someone and “directing” him to proceed on terminal leave, are two different matters, because Jega was appointed and can so be removed.

Meanwhile, several other Nigerians like Akinsola Akinbusuyi gave a negative reaction to the removal plot, saying: “Now I know that president Jonathan and PDP are very desperate to remain in power.

The president knows that Nigerians are weak when it comes to fighting for our right and that is why they said if they remove Jega Nigerians will only make noise for short period and keep quiet. The president and PDP have already taken Nigerians for fools who cannot fight his administration if they do anything wrong.”

Olanrewaju Sulaimon Haleem who also condemned the plot accused the President of wanting to put Nigeria on fire, adding that why can’t Jonathan allow Jega to finish what he has already started.

“If this country is going to be one, it is all in the hand of Mr. President. We will be saying this and will be doing another thing. Jonathan! The unity of Nigeria is in your hands,” he said.

Ajiboye Segun Joseph on his own part, asserted that if President Jonathan like, he should use his wife as INEC chairman, expressing hope that the PDP will still lose the election, while Shileola Al-amin who shared similar believe stated that even if patient Jonathan is the INEC boss, Jonathan will still loose, describing the scenario as penalty on injury time.

Speaking also, Chinwe Ehido said removing Jega will not solve any problem, while Charles Ingreen, who praised Jega, saying; he is not the only man of integrity, as there are many people who have good will in Nigeria.

Ingreen, however, faulted that if Jega refused to communicate with all stakeholders and prefer the APC, he has fired himself! And If Jonathan does not have confidence in Jega, he (Jega) will go.
Abiodun King Samuel, however, wondered if there is any justice in this country considering the whole drama, while Marcie Adams hinted that, years ago she had earlier told her friends that Jonathan is a demon sent to destroy Nigeria, but no one believed her.

“Now the script is playing out. But God sits in ultimate authority above all demons. He has the final say. My eyes shall see the downfall of the wicked. Amen,” she said.

Iliya Yohanna who described the whole drama as a political suicide being committed by excessive PDP, told them to wait for the damages being done while Mutar Adisa stated that President Jonathan has failed, if he replaced Prof. Jega for his own benefit and not for the success of INEC or Nigerians.

Aernan Douglas said changing the goal post in the middle of the game will not help President Jonathan, before Akindehin Sheyi Peter asked, if the election result will be announced at the states level first before the collation in Abuja.

Peter who also asked if the President will also remove the state RECs? said: “If Jonathan likes, he should sack Jega provided card reader will be used for the poll.

However, the House of Representatives on Tuesday, March 3, gave a warning to the Federal Government concerning the possible falsification of March 28 elections and warned against any plot to remove the INEC Chairman, Jega but the President has already assured Nigerians that he has no plan to sack Professor Jega, ahead of the country’s general polls slated for March 28 and April 11.

Meanwhile, the supervising Minister of Information, Mr. Edem Duke, is been criticised for his comments on the alleged plot to remove Prof. Attahiru Jega, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
