Exclusive: Why Yinka Ayefele And Sammie Okposo Are Sworn Enemies
They are both gospel singers, but gospel-tungba singer, Yinka Ayefele and his welu-welu counterpart, Sammy Okposo are sworn enemies.

Their bitter rivalry started on November 11, 2014, during President Goodluck Jonathan’s declaration ceremony at the Eagles Square, Abuja where both musicians were billed to perform among other artistes.

Sammie Okposo had already performed during Jonathan’s arrival at the venue and according to the performance roster made by the organising committee, Yinka Ayefele was expected to perform when the president was about to deliver his speech.

Some of Jonathan’s aides had already informed Ayefele of the president’s choice of song, which the singer quickly rehearsed with his band boys backstage.

But unknown to Ayefele, Okposo had also got wind of the development.

When the the compere of the event eventually called Ayefele to perform, there was a mild drama as Okposo, who had mounted the second stage at the far left with his band, started singing as well and both bands were performing the same song simultaneously.

It took the intervention of some prominent PDP chieftains to stop the madness.

Ayefele, who obviously felt embarrassed at the development, tried to control his temperament to continue the performance for few more minutes.

Since then, he has been telling those who care to know that Okposo is in his ‘black book.’

Yinka Ayefele, a Tungba Gospel music artist, with a fusion of local juju, Fuji, and Makosa flavor, became a household name after he was involved in a ghastly automobile accident in 1997, which damaged his spinal cord, and paralyzed him from the waist down. He turned a mishap into a great opportunity that has left him a household name. He has had successful albums like, ‘Bitter Experience,’ ‘Something Else’ and ‘Divine Intervention’.

Sammy Okposo started in the music profession in 1992 when he joined the Nigeria movie industry as a sound track producer. He later ventured into music production and today he is credited for producing hits for some of the biggest names in the Nigeria Music Scene. In the year 2000, he took the African music scene to another level with the release of his debut album titled Unconditional Love. The hit track of the album is “WELU-WELU.
