Doctors in public hospitals are set to begin a nationwide strike on December 18 following the expiration of a December 14 deadline give to the federal government by the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA).
According to NMA president, Dr. Osahon Enabulele, the strike will first be for 5 days because of the Christmas celebrations, but will continue indefinitely after the Yuletide.
He said: "For over five months, NMA has engaged the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Health, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation on issues bordering on some health sector challenges, workplace conditions and the conditions of service of doctors."
