Although some Niger Delta youths have said President Goodluck Jonathan
must contest in 2015 in spite of the obvious failings of his government
on almost all fronts, it appears he is ready to take the part of honour.
In a speech that has taken his associates and opponents by surprise, President Jonathan on Sunday assured the people of Nigeria that a different government and leadership would be installed in the country in 2015.
Jonathan made the surprise statement at a “Democracy Day” church service held Sunday in Abuja.
When it was Jonathan's turn to speak, he referred to Reverend Opara’s statement. He echoed the reverend’s statement, assuring that the Democracy Day event was the last for his current administration.
It is uncertain if the two statements are clear indications that Jonathan had decided not to seek a second term in office in the general elections scheduled for next year. But a source told OyatoTalk that it's clear.
A source reported that the church service was not well attended as it used to be.

Surprisingly, before Jonathan’s speech, the head of the Nigeria Pilgrims Commission, Reverend John Kennedy Opara, had set the tone when he told the gathering that this year's Democracy Day celebration would be the last to be celebrated by President Jonathan.

A PDP official who was at the event told Sahara Reporters that he was
mystified by the statements. He said he had no advance notice about the
president’s remarks, giving it's political implications.
