The Super Eagles of Nigeria failed to qualify for next year's African Cup of Nations after drawing 2-2 against South Africa in the final match at Akwa Ibom International Stadium.

Nigeria, who needed a win to go through, considering they were on seven points alongside Congo prior to the final matches, couldn't make their home advantage count as Eagles started the match sloppily. Ahmed Musa also missed two glorious chances to put the reigning champions in front.

Eagles soon paid for their misses as South Africa's winger Rantie put Bafana ahead on the edge of half time after woeful defending from Azubuike Egoukwe.

Bournemouth player Rantie added his second after the striker knocked off Kenneth Omeruo on the ball and dribbled past Vincent Enyeama to score, making it increasingly difficult for Nigeria to get back into the game.

Nigeria's Sone Aluko scored two late goals to drag the Eagles back into the game but it wasn't enough as the match ended in a draw after 105 minutes of action.
