The Federal Government has issued a one week ultimatum to the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, to call off the ongoing strike.
The union has been on a five-month long strike since July 1, 2013 over government's refusal to implement the 2009 agreement both parties reached.
Acting Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike, briefed journalists Thursday morning in Abuja about the government's latest move to end the strike.
Wike said the government has also instructed Vice Chancellors of Universities to declare the jobs of the striking lecturers vacant as from Wednesday, December 4.
Recall that the Union, last week, at the end of the ASUU NEC meeting, resolved to take a definite position on the government's offer and the strike after meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan this week.
