Borno state government describes information about
nomination of Chibok school principal for the post of the commissioner
for education in the state as “a joke”.
Nomination of Chibok school’s principal Asabe Kwambura for the highest post in the educational system of Borno state is a joke that should only be told during comedy shows to entertain audience.
That’s how Kashim Shettima’s spokesman Isa Gusau has described the news about alleged Kwambura’s nomination for the commissioner for the education in Borno state.
Earlier various news outlets informed that Borno state governor Kashim Shettima made a controversial nomination of the principal of the ill-fated Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok to fill the position of the new Borno state education commissioner.
“In the last one week, we have noticed a very strange information being circulated by some online media platforms claiming that governor Kashim Shettima of Borno state had nominated Asabe Kwambura, principal of government secondary school, Chibok for the post of commissioner for education” – told Isa Gusau, adding that it can be “nothing more than a joke that should only be told during comedy shows to entertain audience.”
Isa Gusau explained that at first Borno state officials didn’t pay attention to the surfaced allegations, considering them ridiculous, but after this news started trending on the internet, the Borno state government decided to issue an official statement, dispelling the rumours.
In Gusau’s opinion, the rumours about Kwambura’s nomination might have been spread with the intent to harm Shettima’s reputation and to create doubts concerning his alleged involvement in Chibok girls’ abduction, as it had been attempted earlier by some officials supporting past PDP’s federal government.
Earlier Borno state governor Kashim Shettima told he is going to sack those political appointees who are performing poorly in office.
The official made this known as he swore-in the new secretary to the state government, Jidda Shuwa, and other appointees in Maiduguri on June 22.
He was quoted as saying:“I wish to state clearly without fear of contradiction that I will not hesitate to issue sack letter to any appointee who fails to perform to expectations.”
